This past week we took the Matriarch of the Heneghan Clan up to the Farm in Coxsackie, NY to meet her newest great grandchild, Charles Baker. Charles is the fourth child of Jocelyn and Rick Baker, and Jocelyn is the oldest of farm owners Bart and Carol Heneghan’s eleven children. Young Charles is Grandma Heneghan’s 10th great grandchild to go along with her 38 grandchildren.
We got to talk to Bart’s son John about the grass fed beef at the farm. John, who is in charge of the grass fed beef operation, entertained us with stories of managing the herd including having to help pull out a calf that was struggling to be born. The herd is up to 40 cows, and with additional grazing acreage having been recently acquired, the herd should be growing in the near future.
As you can see in the pictures a number of young Heneghan Farm farmers were present when we were there. That stern herd watcher is Eleanor, the daughter of Julie Ferenzy, the farm’s produce manager. Eleanor’s pre-eminent talent is to mimic that faces of the cattle that she is watching.
Also present were Jocelyn’s other three children (Maia, Henry, and Christian) and Lane, Kevin and Eileen’s granddaughter and Grandma Heneghan’s great grandchild #3. Other pictures show the vegetables really starting to take root at the farm under Julie’s and Moriah Heneghan’s care. We hope to make another trip to the farm with some of JA’s employees soon.
