This Saturday, November 18th, we are inviting Moustache Brewery to take over our taps from 1 to 4 pm!   Moustache Brewing Co is located in Riverhead and was founded in 2012 by the husband and wife team of Matthew and Lauri Spitz.  Their beer portfolio is constantly changing and they produce dozens of different beer styles every year.  We have had a number of Moustache's product here at JA's including: Lawn Cream Ale, Milk and Honey Brown, Wanderlust, and Life of Leisure all of ...

JA’s goes to Villanova Soccer!!

This past Wednesday a crew from JA's took a little side trip into the St John's campus to watch the St.Johns/Villanova mens soccer game. Will Steiner, a former employee of JA's, is a standout goalkeeper for the Wildcats and has been a fixture in their goal for the past 4 years. So a gaggle of us JAers rented a van from Broward (maybe we'll get a discount for the plug?) and enjoyed a night of soccer the "Steiner" way. After we arrived at the field we plunged right into the Steiner tailgate ...

Point Lookout Golf Outing

The first annual Point Lookout Golf Outing was held this past Wednesday at the Lido Golf Course. As you may know the management of the golf course has been taken on by the Town of Hempstead and our friend Matt Thompson was instrumental in setting up the outing. Unfortunately Matt couldn't actually attend the affair as he was being honored at another dinner that night. I wonder what if feels like to be thought of that highly. My employees tell me that I need not worry about that. This ...

On Saturday Oct 14th JAs will be hosting an Octoberfest Tap and Aps affair with beer from Garvies Point Craft Brewery and tantalizing appetizers provided by Chef Phil Weinstein. In our continuing effort to support local breweries we are handing over out taps to Garvies Point. Garvies Point is a small batch hand crafted Micro brewery located on L.I.'s "Gold Coast". Our craft beer expert Luke Heneghan ran across Garvies Point in his travels and has had one of their beers on our taps since ...

Hello Everyone!!   We are having a Taps and Apps event this Saturday featuring the beer of the Montauk Brewing Company and the creative culinary talents of our very own Chef Phil Weinstein.  The Montauk Brewing Co has a tasting room located at 62 South Erie Ave. in Montauk.   Much like our own wanna be, future, maybe, definitely going to happen, your guess is as good as mine, great potential (in theory), in house brewer Luke Heneghan, Montauk started as a basement brewing ...

JA’s goes to Maine

The Point Lookout Heneghan's (Eileen & Kevin, Karen & Jack, and Grandma) traveled to East Boothbay Harbor to visit the sole sister of the Heneghan Clan.  Our sister Eileen is married to Dan Miller (my old roommate from USMMA).  They have six children and own a restaurant up in Maine called the Lobsterman's Wharf (http://www.lobstermanswharf.com). The Millers have been up in Maine for 25 years and first bought the Ocean Point Marina (http://www.oceanpointmarina.com).  A little ...

Michigan Dave Kellan

One of the good aspects of being part of a restaurant is that you get to meet some pretty interesting and talented people.  Over the past year we have had Dave Kellan grace our Tavern with some pretty inspired music.  Dave's not your generic singer-songwriter, he is an ass-kicking guitarist that is complemented by some pretty awe-inspiring vocals.  Dave mixes in some mighty original tunes with a great variety of  bluesy mainstays (I've been told by a number of people that he does a better ...

Jack’s Craic: Blog

I've decided to begin this little blog so we can let the friends of JA's get some insight into the events and people of our Tavern. The title of the blog is Jack's Craic. Craic is an Irish word which means "a good time, especially among a group of friends". And the "Craic" is what we hope everyone who comes into JA Heneghan's experiences. The topper to the JA Heneghan's experience is to enjoy the culinary talents of one of Long Islands acclaimed chefs, our own Nicole Roarke. We will ...

Aces for Luke

Our very own Luke Heneghan (bar manager, bartender, beer-brewer extraordiniare) aced the first hole at Nickerson Beach (also known as Augusta of the North) last Wednesday. His playing partner, Catherine Heneghan, declared that it wasn't official since she didn't see it go in the hole. Luke countered that he shouldn't be penalized because his 84 year grandma with macular degeneration failed to see the ball go in. Luckily Luke's cousin Emily was also there to attest to the hole-in-one. For those ...
