We are having a Taps and Apps event this Saturday featuring the beer of the Montauk Brewing Company and the creative culinary talents of our very own Chef Phil Weinstein. The Montauk Brewing Co has a tasting room located at 62 South Erie Ave. in Montauk.
Much like our own wanna be, future, maybe, definitely going to happen, your guess is as good as mine, great potential (in theory), in house brewer Luke Heneghan, Montauk started as a basement brewing operation. (Kevin says his basement can no longer flood….its got too much of Luke’s brewing crap in it to flood anymore). And much like Luke, they distributed their early brews to local establishments and built up a great local following. We have had their WaveChaser, Hop Blonde and Watermelon brews on tap for some time now.
On their website (montaukbrewingco.com) they have a page on the Founders of the Brewery which features three fellas. The first two, Eric Moss (Founder, Brewmaster), and Vaughan Cutillo (Founder, Head of Marketing) have nice write-ups describing their life travels that have lead them to running a brewery and the skills that they bring to the table. The third guy, Joe Sullivan is someone I somewhat identify with, maybe without just cause. Under Joe’s picture is just the work “Founder” and that’s it. I’m kinda fantasizing that Joe is like me and he didn’t feel like his life story was very compelling and that the skills he brings to the brewery are negligible. Pretty much what I bring to JA’s.
To go along with the brew and food we will be having a Pop-Up shop featuring local vendors displaying the best of their wares. (More talented people that make me look bad). They will be outside the tavern (predicated on good weather) unveiling their goods starting at 11am. We also will have Dave Kellan singing some great tunes from 1-4 pm. Dave is a great singer/songwriter who is alone worth the visit if you haven’t already heard him at JA’s or other local spots. All in all it should be a great afternoon. To recap: Pop-up shopping from 11am until you stop spending, and Taps and Aps with the talented Dave Kellan from 1-4 pm.
Hope to see you there!!
